Gender-Based and Sexual Violence Advisory Committee
Among the actions President Alan Shepard identified in his 2022 statement was the commitment to establish a new Gender-Based and Sexual Violence Advisory Committee to “help guide and prioritize our next steps.”
In January 2023 a new Special Advisor to the Provost on GBSV was appointed and took the lead to establish this new committee with a mandate to further consideration of the reports’ recommendations, and support for education, communication, and training initiatives aimed at prevention, safety, and culture change.
The GBSV Advisory Committee has members from across campus, including respresentatives from:
- Undergraduate and graduate student leaders and students-at-large
- Housing & Ancillary Services
- Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
- Office of Indigenous Initiatives
- Student Experience
- Human Rights Office
- Western Communications
- Centre for Research and Education on Violence against Women and Children (CREVAWC)
- Western faculty whose expertise is in the area of Gender-Based and Sexual Violence
- Academic Advising
- GBSV Case Management team
