Western Massey Fellowship Program

Western University and Massey College have partnered to create the Western Massey Fellowship Program, offering two prestigious fellowship positions each year to Western faculty members on sabbatical (six-month or 12-month leave). Launched in Spring 2024, this initiative provides scholars with the opportunity to engage with one of Canada’s most distinguished academic communities.

About the Fellowship

Massey College is a prestigious think tank at the University of Toronto that brings together graduate students, distinguished academicians, and established leaders from all disciplines, industries, and backgrounds to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Western Massey Fellows receive Senior Resident privileges at Massey College, allowing them to actively participate in its intellectual and social life. Fellows collaborate with scholars across disciplines, mentor Junior Fellows—exceptional graduate students at the college—and benefit from a vibrant academic environment during their leave.

Western Massey Fellows will receive Senior Resident privileges at Massey College, including:

  • A prime office in the College shared by the two Western Massey Fellows;
  • Access to Robarts Library at the University of Toronto;
  • Access to carrels and study areas in the Robertson Davies Library at Massey College;
  • Access to all public rooms at Massey College;
  • The right to attend all events (subject to College rules); and
  • Membership in the Massey Alumni Association upon completion of the program.

Fellows are expected to maintain a presence at the College and engage in scholarly and social activities

Applications are now open for two Western Massey Fellow positions for Western faculty who will be on either a six-month or 12-month leave during the 2025-26 academic year.
